iPads are helping to reshape the way we "do" Science in Grade 1. Traditionally, Science has been a subject where, with the help of some hands-on experiments, the teacher imparts knowledge to students. There isn't always time for the teacher to get around and listen to every student's thinking during class time. Grade 1 writing skills are usually not advanced enough for students to record their predictions, observations and conclusions on paper.
iPads are helping to make the invisible bits of student learning visible. Students can take photos with the video and return later to add audio files of their thinking OR students can record videos that incorporate a demonstration along with their oral explanation.
We use apps like "educreations" to document and communicate our thinking. To learn more about this app, watch the tutorial video below (created by children)!
