Meet The Teacher
Hello! My name is Lyndsay Buehler Farrar. At school, I go by "Mrs. Buehler" (say “B’yoo-ler”) or "Mrs. B."
I am very proud to work with the amazing community of students, parents and staff at Howard Robertson! I have been teaching for eight years, mostly Grade 1. I hold specialist qualifications in Reading and Integrating Technology. I also have additional qualifications in Special Education, Math, and Adapting Curriculum For Second Language Learners.
When I was in elementary school, I loved reading and writing most of all! I carried books and notebooks with me everywhere. I always wanted to be a teacher, but I thought that being an author or a librarian would be pretty neat careers as well.
I enjoy volunteering my time to help with school choirs and musical performances. I am also on volunteer committees that take care of organizing technology and learning resources within our school.
I live in Kitchener with my husband Dan, our son Orson, and our two cats, Dante and Virgil. I like thick books, strong coffee, crocheting and yoga. I love to travel and learn about other cultures.

My Philosophy of Education
I have recently been blown away by the power of mindsets. This has added a whole new level of depth and excitement to my job. A positive mindset--from teachers, students and family members--has the power to make all the difference in learning! In our classroom, we will spend a lot of time learning about the brain, how it works, and what we can do to make it work even better. We will practice mindfulness--being aware of how we are feeling and noticing the details around us. We will pause to think about our thinking and check in to make sure we are doing our best to approach everything with a positive mindset. Our goal is to make our classroom community a place where everyone feels safe, where everyone feels understood, and where everyone is learning.
Everyone can learn. Not everyone learns in the same way. We all have likes and dislikes. We're naturally drawn to some activities. We find some parts of school easy and other parts are much more difficult. In our classroom, we will address our similarities and differences when it comes to learning by using a variety of teaching styles and approaches. Focused small-group instruction, particularly in reading and math, will help meet each student's learning needs.
There is no traditional homework in Grade One. Many studies have shown that this type of homework has no impact on student success. We do have a number of programs and activities that you can use you help your child practice his/her learning at home with you:
