Technology In Our Grade 1 Classroom
"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow." --John Dewey
In Room 22, we intentionally incorporate meaningful interactions with technology. Below is an overview of the technology your child interacts with in a typical week.
Document Camera and ProjectorRemember the overhead projectors of days gone past? Here is the new and improved version. This is a camera that projects just about anything--in colour!--for all to see.
We use document cameras to share student work with the class, such as a writing draft or a model of how we solved a math problem. It's a great way for students to get immediate feedback from their classmates and teacher so that they can take their work to the next level. |
iPads - Ready for a revolution? We were so excited to introduce five sets of iPads within our school this April. The focus of these iPads is not for gaming or entertainment, but rather to get students creating their own content.
This requires a big shift in thinking about teaching, making working with iPads just as exciting and engaging for teachers as it is for students! Some projects we have worked on so far include:

Teachers And Technology
Technology is rapidly changing the way that teachers work. I am always seeking out a new app or website that will enhance my ability to do the best job I can with my students, your amazing children. I am learning to use photos, video clips, audio clips and notes taken on my phone or ipad to help gather data for assessment and learning. This means your child will have many chances to show and tell me what he/she knows, instead of always having to write it out for me to collect and read. (We value written communication, of course, but we recognize that technology provides many ways to demonstrate understanding.
